Anthony T. Mirabile

ALBANY – Anthony T. Mirabile, 88, passed away on April 29, 2011 with his loving wife Mary, of 68 years, by his side.  Tony was born in Albany on January 11, 1923, the son of Patsy and Domenica Mirabile.  He graduated from Philip Schuyler High School where he began his training for a career in the printing industry.  He worked for several years at Schatz Stationery, Maqua Printing and Fort Orange Press.  Tony also served in the US Coast Guard during World War II.  His family, faith and friends were the center of his life.  He also enjoyed gardening and the regular breakfast gatherings with his friends during his retirement years.  He was most proud of his marriage to his loving wife, Mary, with whom he would have celebrated his 68th Anniversary this week.

In addition to his wife, Tony is survived by his nephews Michael Hickey (Elaine), Mark Hickey (Sandra), and his nieces Mary Pat Hickey and Maureen Bliven (Michael).  He is also survived by his great nephews, Stephen and Christian Bliven and Brian and Greg Hickey.  He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Santo Mirabile, and his sister Carmela Hickey.

Gloria A. Malone

WEBSTER – Gloria A. (Crowley) Malone, 76, of Webster, NY, died Monday, April 25, 2011 at Rochester General Hospital. Mrs. Malone was born in Albany, and lived for many years in Gloversville before moving to Webster several years ago. She was employed by General Electric and later retired from the Fulton County Youth Bureau in Johnstown, NY.

Mrs. Malone was predeceased by her husband John J. Malone, Sr. She is survived by her children John J. Malone, Jr. (Jill) of Altamont and Nancy Palamar (James) of Webster, her sister Sandra (Bruce) Weidman of Rotterdam Junction, and her grandchildren Brian & Kelly Palamar and John & Claire Malone.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Thursday morning at 8:45, and from there to All Saints Catholic Church, Homestead St., Albany at 9:30. Dorothy Mazzola

SLINGERLANDS – M. Dorothy Mazzola, 86, of Slingerlands, died Friday, April 22, 2011 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Mrs. Mazzola was born in Cohoes, and during her married life lived in Endicott and Poughkeepsie before moving to Albany in 1980. She was a communicant for many years of the former St. Teresa of Avila Church in Albany, and served as a volunteer for many years at the Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Home.

Mrs. Mazzola was predeceased by her husband Joseph A. Mazzola in 1993. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Gallagher of Selkirk, and Candace Joanne Shabez of Plymouth, MI; her grandsons Scott Gallagher (Isela) and Matthew Gallagher (Deanna Rockenstyre); her great grandchildren Joseph Anthony, Brandon, Michaela, and Mason Gallagher; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Jeanne Sturtevant.

John J. Sickles

ALBANY – John J. Sickles, aka “Pop Sickles” and “Uncle Buddy,” 84, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 in Naples, FL.  John was a lifelong resident of Albany, and was proud to have served in the US Navy during both World War II and the Korean War.  He was a retiree of National Grid Power Corp where he served as a Service Supervisor.  John “Pop Sickles” acquired his nickname during the time when he was a coach for Westland Hills Little League.  After retirement, being an avid golfer, Pop worked at the Capital Hills Golf Course as a Starter & Ranger. Pop was an active member of the Adirondack Model A Club, the American Legion, the Elks Club, the VFW and the Niagara Mohawk 25 year club.

John was predeceased by his wife Janet L (Duncan) Sickles in 1994 and his eldest son Gary J Sickles in 1991.  He is survived by his son Bruce J and his daughter-in-law Luann, along with many generations of cousins.

Donald C. Hoen

RENSSELAER – Donald C. Hoen passed away Sunday April 17, 2011 at the age of 61. Don was born in Baltimore, MD. He moved to the area in the early 50′s, was educated by CBA, and graduated from Siena in 1971 with a B.A. He worked throughout his life as a corporate pilot, flying more than 16000 hours throughout his career for Richmor Aviation and West Bend Air, traveling around the world. He also worked for other transportation services, Laidlaw and First Student. Don is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, four grandchildren, one brother and one sister. He served as an altar boy for Father Buckley at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Colonie, believed in the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Rensselaer.

Grace Anderson

ALBANY – Grace Scalzetto Anderson passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2011.  Born in Albany on August 9, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Gelardo and Angelina Fiato Scalzetto.  Grace graduated from Philip Schuyler, and worked for the NY State Dept. of Labor for twenty years, retiring in 1972.  Grace enjoyed going to the races and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her beloved husband of almost 46 years John Anderson; her sisters Rose and Natalie Scalzetto, and brothers Ralph (Pat) and Louis Scalzetto; sisters in law Betty Fennessy and Peggy Bell.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers and sisters John, Salvatore and Antoinette Scalzetto, Jerome, John, Isadore and Anthony Rovelli, and Helen Ravida and Mary Cataldo.  She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Josephine Sebast

ALBANY – Josephine M. DeMase Sebast, at the age of 103, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Teresian House.  Mrs. Sebast was born in New York City, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Marguerite Cozzi DeMase.  She lived in Albany since the age of seven.  She was employed by the New York Telephone Co. in Albany for thirty years, retiring in 1966.  She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Telecommunications Credit Union.  She also was a communicant of the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Albany.  She loved gardening and playing cards with her sisters and friends, and she also enjoyed fishing with her husband.

Mrs. Sebast was predeceased by her husband Paul W. Sebast and her daughter Margaret E. Sebast.  She is survived by her daughter Ricki Lordi (John A.) of Williamsville, NY; her grandchildren Margaret Ellen Santomauro (James), and John Frederick Lordi; her great grandchildren Joseph A., Michael J., and Matthew J. Santomauro; and by several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sisters Frances Denublio, May Rinaldi, Vincie Sparapany, Julia DeMase, Dorothy Leak, Marjorie Zahn, and Kathryn M. Demase; and her brothers Vincent James and Dominic.

Albany, NY – Marie A. Lynch, 70, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at St. Peters Hospital in Albany. Mrs. Lynch was born in Albany, NY and lived here most of her life. Mrs. Lynch was the wife of the late James V. Lynch Jr. Mrs. Lynch had a passion for crafting and created most her own decorations for the holidays. She is survived by her dear friend and companion Karl Green Sr., and several cousins, nieces and nephews

John Siy

COLONIE – John Siy, 88, died peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2011. Born in Albany on September 16, 1922, he was the son of Lucas and Sofia Siy. John last worked for the Nashua Corporation in Watervliet. He was a devoted husband and father, and enjoyed a close relationship with his sister and brother and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.    As a member of the Greatest Generation, John served bravely in WWII as an electrician in the navy aboard the USS Palawan (ARG-10) in the Pacific theatre. His memories included surviving two typhoons and the surrender of a Japanese submarine to his ship in the final days of the war.

John was predeceased by his loving wife of 45 years, Catherine Parker Siy, who died in 1996.  He is survived by his caring sister Jennie Siy of Albany; his brother Louis Siy and Louis’ loving wife Mary, both of Delmar; his son Dennis (Susan) Siy of Naperville, IL; his son Peter (Erica) Siy of Lexington, MA; his loving sister-in-law Marilyn Bradt of Ocala, FL, who was predeceased by her husband Clint Bradt.  John is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

As a long-time resident of Colonie, John especially enjoyed living at the Beltrone Living Center in Colonie. The family wishes to thank the residents and staff for their kindness.
