ALBANY – Constance (Connie) Hinman Cheeseman, 102, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026 in her daughter’s arms. A resident of Lenox Ave in Albany NY for over 70 years, she will be missed by many neighbors, friends, and family. Constance was born in Albany, the daughter of the late William Frederick Hinman and Maude Callan Hinman, and lived here all her life. She was a communicant of the Parish of Mater Christi and the former St. Catherine of Siena Church.
On a snowy winter’s day in 1948, she married Paul E. Cheeseman. They had one daughter - Carol. She had a deep interest in Albany history and Irish heritage, and she was an avid gardener — a true farmer at heart. She cherished time spent outdoors, working in the yard well into her 90s, planting and pruning with care. Summer afternoons were often spent relaxing by the pool with a good book.
Connie cherished time spent with friends and family and loved to entertain. She had an incredible gift for making everyone feel welcome in her home. Over the years, her house became a special gathering place for many — from annual Thanksgiving celebrations and backyard happy hours to lazy Sunday afternoons by the pool. It was her generosity, warmth, and spirit that made everyone feel at home when visiting.
In her later years, she especially enjoyed weekly visits from her great-grandchildren, who treasured their time with “G.G.”
Connie was predeceased by her husband Hon. Paul E. Cheeseman. She is survived by her daughter Carol A. Cheeseman of Albany; her grandson James Friedman (Emily Ekland) of Albany; and by her great grandchildren Harper and Milo Friedman. She was predeceased by her siblings Harold Hinman, Marion Reid, and Carolyn Banagan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including members of the Banagan, Butterfield, Cheeseman, Cincotta, Devane, Esler, Mahota, and Wolfstich families as well as one of her childhood best friends, Rita O’Sullivan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Parish of Mater Christi, Hopewell Street and Hurst Avenue, Friday morning May 22 nd at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany. To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
