HAGAMAN - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James J. Carney at the age of 82 on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Born and raised in Albany, Jim was a graduate of the Vincentian Institute Class of 1962. He earned degrees from Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Empire State College, and served in the US Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971. Jim dedicated thirty years to the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, where he served in various capacities, including District Manager.
He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Mary Lou Rigosu, as well as his parents, Martin L. and Lillian Gannon Carney, and his sisters, Mary E. and Veronica Carney. Jim was a member of the Irish American Heritage Museum, the ADK Mountain Club, and a long-time parishioner of St. Stephen's RC Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Carney Manske (Jason), Tricia Carney de Fuentes (Angel), and Elise Carney; and his grandchildren, Nicholas, Sydney, and Xander.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead Ave, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. that morning. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
