ALBANY – Philomena M. DeFlorio Russo, 98, of Albany, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, with her loving family at her side. Philomena was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Nicola and Domenica DeFlorio.  She was employed for many years by the New York State Division of the Budget. For over 40 years, she also was a communicant of the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church and All Saints Catholic Church where she was an active member of the Senior Citizens group.  A devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother, family was indeed the most important aspect of her life. She was an adoring grandmother and took great pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren whom she wanted near her always. A lover of poetry, music, theatre and art throughout her life, she herself was a very creative person and an accomplished seamstress.

Philomena was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Anthony F. Russo, Sr.  She is survived by her children Mary Ann Donnaruma (Walter) of Delmar, and Anthony F. Russo, Jr. (Maria) of Clifton Park; her grandchildren Julia Donnaruma (John Hampshire), Jacqueline Donnaruma (Jack Shaefer), Anthony F. Russo, III (Adam Tessier), and Christopher R. Russo, M.D. (Ellyn); and her great grandchild Anthony Joseph Russo, as well as several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces. She was predeceased by her brothers Dominick and Francis DiFlorio and by her sisters Josephine Graziano, and Angeline, Julia, and Anna DeFlorio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar, on Tuesday, January 17th at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend.  There will be no calling hours. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations be made in Philomena’s memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Upstate New York Chapter or the Capital City Rescue Mission.
