Robert F. Benson

ALBANY - Robert F. Benson, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2026, surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Cooperstown, NY in 1934 and lived in the Albany area for most of his life. By his own account, “It was a great run!”

Bob was a devoted father who spent his younger days helping to run the youth bowling league at Westlawn Lanes and golfing with his numerous close friends.

Bob is survived by his wife Chris, and his children Catherine Marr (Tom MIlliron) of Phoenix, AZ, Jeffrey Benson (Pamela) of Dayton, Nevada, Timothy Benson (Karen) of Hendersonville, NC, and Scott Benson (Jenifer Bubenik) of Asheville, NC, as well as Chris’ children Terri Sharpe (Gregg) of Pozzallo, Sicily, and Mark Schiponi (Christine) of Kensington, MD.

He was a devoted “Grandpa” to Jason Roberge and Shayna McKenna (Chris McKenna), a loving “Baba” to Garrett, Alex, and Jenna Schiponi, and a proud great-grandfather to Jackson and Luke.

Bob and Chris shared 37 years of marriage together, their adventures taking them on overseas trips, cross-country travels, and much time enjoying the sunny shores of Florida. Their life was spent skiing, kayaking, golfing, and spending time laughing with family and friends. Bob will be greatly missed.
