ALBANY - Richard K. Garhartt, aged 74, of Albany, New York, passed away on January 7, 2026, at Ellis Hospital. Rick was born on September 18, 1951, and dedicated 29 years of his life working as a laborer with Laborers’ Local 190. He was best known for his love of a good story, quick wit and his permanent cigar.
Rick had a deep love for fishing, which provided him both relaxation and joy throughout his life. He found solace in nature and cherished the moments spent by the water, often sharing these experiences with his family.
Above all, Rick was immensely proud of his family. He leaves behind his loving wife Linda Garhartt, as well as his children: Caron (Shawn) Dias, Richard (Alisha) Garhartt, and Chad (Kathryn) Garhartt. He also adored his stepson, Michael (Leslie) Severino, and was a devoted grandfather to Steven Dias, Mason and Mackenzie Garhartt, Tyler and Jace Garhartt, along with Deianna and Dylan Severino. Rick took great pride in witnessing the growth and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, which were his greatest achievements.
Rick is survived by his siblings Ross Garhartt, Gene Garhartt, Ronald Garhartt, Luann Burgess, Robin Garhartt, Tammy Lafontaine, and Randy Garhartt along with many nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind his beloved cat Willow, who brought him much companionship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Muriel Garhartt, sister Sonie O'Donnell and brother David Garhartt as well as his German Shepard’s Samson and Harley. In accordance with his wishes, he chose to donate his body to Albany Medical College, reflecting his generous spirit and desire to contribute to the greater good.
