CLIFTON PARK - Patricia M. King (Patnode), 91, of Clifton Park, died peacefully on June 11, 2025. Pat was many things but her most marquee quality was how funny she was. She had a quick wit and could always crack a well-timed joke to make any situation feel lighter. She was the queen of one-liners. Recently, if anyone asked how she was feeling, Pat would reply with “not dead yet.”

Pat was born on Nov. 3, 1933 in Plattsburgh, New York. She was the daughter of the late Clifton and Mabel Patnode. Pat graduated from Our Lady of Victory in Plattsburgh in 1951. She went on to work as a telephone operator for Western Electric. In 1953 she married her beloved husband, the late John King, who died in 1994. The couple had six children, all raised in Clifton Park. They retired to Titusville, Florida, in1983.

Throughout her life Pat had many jobs including working in healthcare as a nurse’s aid and working in retail in Cocoa Beach when she lived in Florida. Pat moved back to New York in 1999, driving a white Mustang convertible, and quickly became a pillar of her community and a nexus for her family. Pat was a member of the American Legion Post 1450 Auxiliary in Halfmoon, VFW Post 125 in Plattsburgh and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Crescent. Pat always had at least one rosary in her pocket and would hang it outside during family parties to ward off rain. She also loved to knit, making countless pairs of mittens for her children and grandchildren, including “courting mittens,” a set of three mittens allowing couples to hold hands inside one of them, though Pat always warned not to give these mittens to the wrong person or “you might get stuck.” She also gave out mittens to the neighborhood kids (and their parents) on Halloween. In her later years, Pat knitted mittens for unhoused Veterans and made hats for babies in Capital Region NICUs.

Pat loved to talk and was constantly calling friends and family to catch up and then fastidiously recording the call in her calendar so she’d know the last time she checked in with someone. She also loved the simple things in life: a good cup of strong coffee, a runny egg, a riveting book and watching the New York Yankees play.

In addition to her parents and husband, Pat is preceded in death by her cherished granddaughter Elizabeth Proctor of Cohoes. Pat was a loving mother and is survived by her six children: Nancy Cummings of Clifton Park; John King of Saratoga Springs; Karen (Tim) Tremblay of Emerald Isle, NC; Sue King of Clifton Park; Joseph (Sheryl Howell) King of Mims, FL; and Daniel King of Waynesboro, VA. Pat also leaves behind eleven beloved grandchildren: Joseph (Kelly) Proctor of Bluffton, SC; Justin King of Staunton, VA; Erica (LJ) King of Waynesboro, VA; Christopher Proctor of Cohoes; Evan (Cassandra) Cummings of Ballston Spa; Caitlin Tremblay of Ballston Lake; Ben Cummings of Clifton Park; Danielle Tremblay of Ballston Lake; Megan King of Ballston Spa; Heather (Corey) Harkness of Mims, FL; and Mark Howell of Mims, FL. Pat is survived by eight great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Alivia, Declan, Landon, Macy, Mila, Miles, Samuel and Slayden. Pat is also survived by her best friend of over 80 years, Betty Seguin of Plattsburgh and her niece, Mary Ellen Sage of Watervliet.

Pat was always quick to share her wisdom and in that vein she donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany Medical College. It was her hope that a new generation of medical students could continue to learn from her, even after her death.  Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Pat’s memory to Sidewalk Warriors of Troy, NY, at 22 Morningside Drive Latham, NY 12110 or sidewalkwarriorstroy.com.
