ALBANY

Michael D. Davis

ALBANY – Michael D. Davis, 77, of Albany, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Shaker Place Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. Michael was born in Gloversville, raised in Northville and was a graduate of Northville High School and Fulton County Community College, where he earned his nursing degree.  He was employed for many years by both the Johnstown hospital and then by Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield, from which he retired in 2011.

One of Michael’s greatest passions was performing. He played many leading roles at the Colonial Theatre in Johnstown and was a founding member of the Good Time Players.  He was a born comic and could bring on fits of laughter with just a facial expression. Michael was also an accomplished singer.  He was a member of numerous other theatre and choral organizations, where he also performed as a leading actor and a soloist.  He was a founding member and board member of both the Capital Pride Singers and the Albany Gay Men’s Chorus. He was an active member the First Presbyterian Church in Albany where he also was a faithful part of the chancel choir.

Michael loved to travel, and along with his husband, made yearly trips to Montreal, Provincetown, and Key West.

Michael wasn’t just a nurse or a performer. He was a devoted and caring husband, son, uncle and friend. He was a kind, generous, and comforting presence in good times and bad. Although he was the youngest child in his family, Michael helped his mother with all that it took to raise a large family. At 14 years old, he unselfishly became a “big brother” to his niece and nephew.

Michael is survived by his beloved spouse, Jerry M. Nathan, and by several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Leland and Augusta Ryan Davis; and by his siblings Leland Davis, Jr., Velma Bennett, Sandra Hanmer, and Gwendolyn Snell.

The family is very grateful for the compassionate care which was provided by Margaret Duker and the staff at Shaker Place.

A memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held in the First Presbyterian Church, corner of State & Willett Streets, on Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m.   Interment will take place privately in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville on May 18th.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the First Presbyterian Church, the Capital Pride Singers and the Albany Gay Men’s Chorus.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
