BALLSTON SPA - Carol A. Frederick, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at her home in Ballston Spa, NY, on July 13, 2025, after a brief illness complicated by dementia. She was 85 years old.
Born on November 18, 1939, in Schenectady, NY, Carol graduated from Guilderland High School in 1959. Throughout her life, she embraced various professional roles while residing in Rutland, VT, Liverpool, NY, Greene, NY, and Ballston Spa, NY. However, her most cherished roles were those of a devoted mom, grandmother, wife, and sister. Carol derived great joy from her family and proudly celebrated them as her greatest accomplishment.
During her time in Greene, NY, Carol made a significant impact on her community, known fondly for her work as a school bus driver, her dedication to coaching volleyball, and her leadership during the 1984-85 academic year in organizing efforts to fund an entire athletic budget when the district struggled to support its programs. Her unwavering spirit and commitment to kindness and compassion extended beyond her family and into the lives of so many she touched throughout her journey.
Carol’s warm personality shined through her ever-present smile and infectious positivity. She found delight in simple pleasures, ranging from working diligently around the house to enjoying every opportunity to dance, which brought her immense joy. She enjoyed many concerts with her daughter Sharon at SPAC. A lifelong season ticket holder alongside her late husband Roy to Siena Men's Basketball games, she cherished those moments deeply until his passing in 2015.
As an active member of the Ballston Milton Seniors, Carol often gathered for lunches, bingo and more dancing, relishing the camaraderie of her friends. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will be forever remembered by all who knew her.
She leaves behind her beloved daughter Sharon Frederick, and her sons Michael (Heather), Timothy, and Roy T. (Stacy) Frederick. Her pride extended to her grandsons Matthew Barton and Evan, Aidan, and Spencer Frederick, as well as her great-granddaughter Lily Barton. Carol is also survived by her dear siblings: Dianne (Dave) Hull, Roy Purtell, Linda Hughes, Lisa Beretz. She will lovingly be remembered by her sister-in-law E. Nancy Wiley, and brother-in-law Thomas (Wilma) Frederick and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Carol reunites with those who preceded her in death, including her devoted husband Roy C. Frederick, her parents Louise and Robert Purtell, her parents-in-law Roy A. and Mary E. Frederick, her sister Marlene Plant, brother-in-law George Wiley, sister-in-law Carol Purtell, and beloved nieces Charlene Plant and Susan Frederick Radley, as well as nephew Andrew Wiley.
Carol's warmth, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be greatly missed. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
