Sylvester Filippo Battaglia

ALBANY – Sylvester Filippo “Syl” Battaglia passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.  He was born on Easter Sunday, April 13, 1952, the beloved son of Patricia Hunter Standish and Philip S. Battaglia.  He graduated from the Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pennsylvania and the University of South Florida.  He followed his father and grandfather in the family’s wholesale produce business and continued to work in that field until he suffered a stroke in 2006.

Syl was predeceased by his sister, Anne Beaupre Battaglia, his brother, Augustus James Battaglia, and his father Philip S. Battaglia.  He is survived by his mother, Patricia Hunter Standish, his sisters, Mary Jo Kelly, Margaret Glassman, and Stacie Pappas, and his brothers, Anthony A. Battaglia and Philip S. Battaglia, Jr., as well as many nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held for the family on Saturday, October 16, 2021, followed by a blessing at the family mausoleum in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy, NY.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
