ALBANY – Raymond J. Steede, Jr., 68, of Albany, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Albany Memorial Hospital with his sister and brother-in-law by his side.  During his final days, Ray was always surrounded by his loving family.  Ray was born in Albany, the son of the late Raymond J. Steede, Sr. and Regina A. Ryan Steede.  He was a graduate of Cardinal McCloskey High School, and was employed by the New York State Dept. of Motor Vehicles for over 30 years.  He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, and was active in the North Albany American Legion Post 1610.  Prideful of his Irish heritage, Ray also was a member of the North Albany Limericks for over fifty years, and served for many years on the Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee.  In 1982, Ray had the honor of serving as the Grand Marshall of the Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  Through the years Ray loved to golf, and he traveled to Myrtle Beach twice a year for the game.  He also was an avid reader, and truly enjoyed the company of his many friends while golfing, traveling, or socializing.   He will be remembered by his family, especially his nieces and nephews, as extremely generous and loving.

Ray is survived by his sister Kathryn Vavasour (John) of Albany; his brother-in-law James Kaufman of Guilderland; and his nieces and nephews Keith Campbell, Erin Campbell, Meghan Muller (Daniel), James Kaufman (Kathryn), Kathryn Massie (Robert), and Andrea Cyr (Matthew).  He was predeceased by his sister Sandra Campbell and her husband Vincent Campbell, and by his sister Margaret Kaufman.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., and from there to St. Pius X Church, Crumitie Rd., Loudonville at 11:00 a.m.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-7 p.m.  Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sr. Maureen Joyce Center, 369 Livingston Ave, Albany, NY 12206.  To leave a message of condolence for the family or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
