ALBANY – Philip W. Torre, 91, of  Albany, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.  Mr. Torre was born in Albany, and lived here all his life.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.  He also worked for many years at the Winthrop Laboratories in Rensselaer.  He was a communicant for many years of the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church, and he also was a devoted fan of aviation and boating.  He loved attending airshows, and also loved boating in a speedboat that he built.  He also was a member of the Albany Elks Lodge #49.

Mr. Torre was predeceased by his beloved wife Lena Caruso Torre in 1997, and by his sisters Pauline Barbaro and Concetta McGuire, and his brothers Anthony and Charles Torre.  He is survived by his daughters Ednajean Blanchard and her husband Carl E. Blanchard, III of Slingerlands, and Linda Summer and her husband Thomas A. Summer of San Diego; his sister Theresa Parese of Rensselaer; and his grandchildren Carl Blanchard IV (Cindy), Andrew Blanchard (Nuala); and his great granddaughter Morgan Blanchard; and his dear friend and companion Joyce Sager.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Monday morning at 8:15, and from there to All Saints Catholic Church, Homestead St., Albany at 9:00.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-4 p.m.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.  The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Hospice Inn for the wonderful care provided to Mr. Torre.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, send a sympathy card, or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
