ALBANY – Richard J. McCarthy, 88, of Albany, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Evergreen Commons Nursing Home. Mr. McCarthy was born in Boston, MA, and lived in Highland, NY and Kingston, NY before coming to Albany in 1967. He worked for many years as a radio broadcaster for radio stations WKNY and WGHQ in Kingston, and was employed by the New York State Dept. of State for twenty years, in addition to broadcasting at Albany stations WROW, WGY, and WABY. He received numerous awards from the New York State Broadcaster’s Association. He also was a communicant of the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Albany for many years.
Mr. McCarthy was predeceased by his wife Marie R. McDonough McCarthy. He is survived by his son Richard J. McCarthy, Jr. of Loudonville; his daughters Anne Marie McCarthy (Steven Gower), and Kathryn Scott (Edward) of Denver, CO; and by his grandchildren Quinn and Claire Gower.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Saturday morning at 8:30, and from there to the Historic Church of St. Mary on Capitol Hill at 9:30. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
