SLINGERLANDS – Phillip George Kranz, 87, of Slingerlands NY, peacefully passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017.  Phil was born April 21, 1929 to Phillip and Blanch Kranz, in Beacon, NY and as a young boy, the family moved upstate where Phil grew up on their farm in Scriba, NY just outside of Oswego.

Phil served in the Navy during the Korean War, on the AKS 20 USS Mercury, from November 1951 until November 1953.  Upon his return from service, he attended Oswego State Teachers College, graduating with a degree in Industrial Arts Technology.   While attending Oswego State, Phil met the love of his life, Loy, whom he lovingly referred to as his “beauty queen”.  Phil and Loy married and settled in the Albany area where he began his teaching career in the Guilderland School District as an Industrial Arts teacher until his retirement in 1984.

Phil was an active member of the Antique Outboard Motor Club, the Antique and Classic Boat Society, the Albany Antique Toy Club, the American Bantam Car Club as well as a former Board of Trustee and longtime “Friend of the Museum” of the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY.  He was an avid and passionate collector of antique toys, cars, boats, outboard motors, related literature and Thousand Islands memorabilia.  He enjoyed spending summers at their cottage on the St. Lawrence River in Clayton NY and loved sharing those precious summers with friends, family, children and grandchildren over the last 40 years.

Phil is predeceased by his wife Loy Kranz (2015) and brother Gerald Kranz (2014).  Phil is survived by his sister Bert Leighton, and brothers Don, Dick, and Doug; sons, Phillip Gregory and wife Nancy, Bradley and wife Kristen; grandsons, Nathan, Austin, Spencer, and Cameron.  A private celebration of his life will be held, at a later date, with friends and family.
