ALBANY – Mary Galish Baleszen, 94, of Albany, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, July 4, 2014. Mary was born in Carnegie, PA, the daughter of the late Anna and Luke Galish. She was raised in the Ukraine until returning to the U.S. at the age of 18. She lived in Voorheesville, and since 1959 in Albany. Mary was employed in various occupations in the area including work at Eastern Tablet, Albany Medical Center, Whitney’s Dept. Store, Singer Sewing Co., the Waldorf Cafeteria, the Watervliet Arsenal, and SUNY Albany.
Mary enjoyed her life tremendously with painting, sewing, gardening, and summers on Saratoga Lake. She would like to express her gratitude to those special friends and family that made her life a joy. Also, special thanks to the medical community for all their care over the years, including Community Hospice, St. Peter’s Hospice Inn, the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Home Instead, and Nursecore.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Michael Baleszen. She is survived by her son Michael John Baleszan of Albany, and her daughter Julie Gilbert (Floyd) of Niskayuna; and by two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Julie Galish and her brother Steve Galish (Lucille).
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Tuesday morning at 9:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
