Loretto B. Helbock

ALBANY – Loretto B. Helbock, 98, of Albany, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 3:25pm, at St. Peter’s Hospice.  Loretto was born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland, and came to the U.S. with her family in 1928.  She was raised in New Rochelle, and lived in a number of places including Long Island, Shenorock, and Katonah, before settling in Albany in the early 1960s.  In the Albany area, she was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar, St. Teresa of Avila Church, St. Margaret Mary’s Church, Holy Cross Church, and All Saints Catholic Church.  Loretto worked for many years as a private duty nurse, and also worked for a time at the Teresian House.

Loretto was predeceased by her husband Arthur and her son John J. Helbock in 1995, and also by her infant son James P. Helbock.  She is survived by her children Arthur W. Helbock of Albany, Christina M. Helbock, of Los Angeles, CA, Veronica C. England (Robert) of Jacksonville, NC, and Michael G. Helbock (Karen M.) of Virginia Beach, VA; her grandchildren Michael G. Helbock (Natalie Rongonui), Jill M. Birt (Christopher), Jeremy England (Tiffany), and Jason England (Stephanie); her great grandchildren Justin Helbock (Rebekah Lofton), Blake, Lillian, and Madison Helbock; and Haley, Quinn and Evan Birt and Dylan, Hanna, Hadyn, Hazyl, Cameron and Brittany England, and Annie (Kermaghan); and by a great great grandchild Jaxson Parker Helbock.  She was also predeceased by her siblings Alfred P. Bailey, Richard G. Bailey, and Gertrude Donahue.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany (behind CVS) on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.  Relatives and friends are invited.  There will be no calling hours.  Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
