ALBANY – John J. Sickles, aka “Pop Sickles” and “Uncle Buddy,” 84, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 in Naples, FL.  John was a lifelong resident of Albany, and was proud to have served in the US Navy during both World War II and the Korean War.  He was a retiree of National Grid Power Corp where he served as a Service Supervisor.  John “Pop Sickles” acquired his nickname during the time when he was a coach for Westland Hills Little League.  After retirement, being an avid golfer, Pop worked at the Capital Hills Golf Course as a Starter & Ranger. Pop was an active member of the Adirondack Model A Club, the American Legion, the Elks Club, the VFW and the Niagara Mohawk 25 year club.

John was predeceased by his wife Janet L (Duncan) Sickles in 1994 and his eldest son Gary J Sickles in 1991.  He is survived by his son Bruce J and his daughter-in-law Luann, along with many generations of cousins.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Saturday morning at 10:00.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 pm.  Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern New York, Pine West Plaza, Building 4, Suite 405, Washington Ave Ext, Albany, NY 12205.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, send a sympathy card, or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
