ALBANY – John J. Byrne Jr., 86, of Albany, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018. John was born in Albany, the son of the late John J. Byrne Sr. and Laura Dubuque Byrne, and he lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Vincentian Institute, class of 1950, and studied in the seminary for five years, during which time he graduated from St. Bonaventure University. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, and after the army began a long career in banking, working for First Trust Co., Bankers Trust, and First American Bank until retiring as senior vice president of First American Bank. John was a loving family man, avid Pinochle player, and attended Mass daily. He and his wife Patricia enjoyed wintering on Anna Maria Island, Fla. He was a longtime communicant of All Saints Catholic Church and the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Patricia A. Brown Byrne; his daughters, Mary-Jo Khan of Flanders, N.J., Lisa Brown (Daren) of Peoria, Ill., and Erin Buffaline (Dann) of Palmetto, Fla.; his sister Kathleen Bauman of San Antonio, Texas; and his grandchildren, Marissa and Christian Brown, and Monica Khan. He was predeceased by his sister Christina Byrne.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany on Monday at 8:15 a.m., and from there to All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., (behind CVS) at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. Interment will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church, 12 Rosemont St., Albany, NY, 12203 or to The Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S.
