DELMAR – John A. Cappello, 92, formerly of Gloversville, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Mr. Cappello was born in Schenectady, he also lived for seven years in Garden Grove, CA, and then returned to Gloversville, NY. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he owned the Georgie Importing Co. in Schenectady. He also owned three restaurants in California in partnership with his brother for a time. In Gloversville he owned Cappello’s Roma Restaurant.
Mr. Cappello was predeceased by his wife Rose Ruggeri Cappello. He is survived by his children Madlyn Reid of Albany, John Cappello, Jr. (Jean) of Phoenix, AZ, and James Cappello (Dina) of Clifton Park; his brother Anthony Cappello of Maryland; his sister Helen Viscusi of Anaheim, CA; his grandchildren David Merwitz (Ellen), Laura Meeson (Lance), and Jonathan Cappello; and by four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Thursday morning at 10:30. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
