Joan E. Dinovo

WESTMERE – Joan E. Dinovo, 78, of Westmere, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014, at St. Peter’s Hospital.  Joan was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Dawson A. “Red” Bonitz and Marion F. Wiley Bonitz.  She lived all her life in Westmere.  She was a very dedicated life member of the Westmere Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, past president, and served on the group’s board of directors.  She also was a communicant of Christ the King Church, and a life member of the Hudson Valley Girl Scouts.  Retired from the Guilderland School System Cafeteria Services program, she cheerfully interacted with the students and staff daily.  Some of Joan’s greatest joys were spending time with her family, and going camping with family and friends. Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Salvatore R. “Bob” Dinovo; her children Robert C. Dinovo,  Timothy J. Dinovo (Dawn), Lisa Knightes (Donald), and Holly Marbaker (Nicholas); her brother Charles Bonitz (Kay) of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren Michelle and Morgan Knightes, and Cole and Gwenn Marbaker; and by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Tuesday morning at 9:00, and from there to Christ the King Church, Sumter Ave., Guilderland, at 10:00.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-8 pm. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather in the funeral home at 4:30 pm Monday for a service of prayer and remembrance.  All are welcome.   Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Westmere Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, 1741 Western Ave., Albany, NY 12203.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
