Jane A. Smith

GUILDERLAND – Jane A. Smith, a long time resident of Church Road in Guilderland, passed away peacefully Friday, September 1, 2017, surrounded by family in her home.  Born March 14th, 1930, the daughter of Carl S. Fink and Marian (Zimmerman) Fields, she lived her early life on her family’s farm and graduated from Draper High School and SCCC.  She was a lifetime member of St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Albany, NY.  Jane was known for her adventurous spirit, kindness and love for all living creatures.  Jane was married the late Ira Smith for 43 years.  She retired from the State of New York Social Services Department and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her friends and family throughout her retirement including summers on Sacandaga Lake.  Jane had a love for life and a passion for the outdoors that took her around the world on many adventures with her beloved hiking group.  She found her love for travel as a young woman and began traveling with family and friends, taking trips across the country, to Europe, the Caribbean and many places in between.  Her fondness for flowers led her to become a long time active member of the Northeast NY Orchid Society.  Jane had a love for rollerskating and remained close with friends from her years of skating at the rink.  She went skydiving to celebrate her 60th birthday, one example of how she lived life to the fullest.

Jane is survived by her daughter Deborah Stealey (Donald) and her son Eric Smith (Sandra), her sisters Evelyn Pitt (Charles), and Patricia Roedema.  She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Jane is predeceased by her brother Carl C. Fink, son Michael G. Smith and brother in law Edward Roedema.
Jane’s family would like to thank the Eddy visiting nurses, Hospice, Harriet and Colleen for their wonderful care.
