AMSTERDAM – James Anthony Savoie, born on July 8, 1949 passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at his home with loved ones by his side. He was the son of Anthony J. Savoie and Hazel I. Abrams Savoie, both of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his sister, Janice Mangino (Albert R. Mangino, Jr.) of Ballston Spa, NY, a nephew Alex James Hopkins (Kelly Timmins) of Town of Florida, NY and a niece Kayce Savoie (Nicholas Shaw) of Delanson, NY.
James attended Amsterdam High School and graduated with the Class of 1966 with Regents Honors. After High School, he enlisted in the US Navy from November 1966 through April 1970. During his service James successfully completed a course of study in Russian at the US Department of Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, serving as a CT-2 Cryptologic Technician during the Vietnam War. Thereafter James attended both Fulton Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, NY and SUNY Albany where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree. James was also known for his constant work ethic. He appreciated the life he created for himself, working with his hands either on farms during hay season, pruning trees for orchards, building his own home or maintaining various rental properties. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, camping, fishing and catching up on the news with friends at local establishments.
