Elaine E. Smith

ALBANY – Elaine E. Smith entered into eternal peace March 18, 2017. Born in Lynbrook, NY May 11, 1921, Elaine most recently was a resident at Teresian House Nursing Home since 2010. Married in 1945 to Martin C. Smith, she resided in East Rockaway, Long Island until moving to   Delmar in 1967.

Dignified and modest throughout her long life, Elaine was a dear friend to many. She was a superb cook, a gracious hostess and an accomplished craftswoman. With her daughter, she exhibited and sold her handmade items at many craft fairs. She was an accomplished maker of tatted lace, and taught many others this vanishing art. She enjoyed membership in a gourmet club, the Delmar Progress Club, and her women’s bowling league. Elaine was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church of Albany where she was active in charitable activities.

Elaine is pre-deceased by her husband, Martin C. Smith, and her daughter Barbara Weeks. She is survived by her son Raymond Smith (Barbara Quackenbush) of Guilderland; grandsons Gordon Smith of New Jersey, and Matthew Weeks of Hannacroix; her step-grandsons Todd Sinkins of Virginia, and Kirk Sinkins of Colonie; and by great-grandchildren.  She also is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Teresian House, especially those of “B” Wing, Fifth floor, notably nurse Kelly Brush and aide Angie Mama. Special thanks to devoted friend Val Behling for her love and care.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Elaine’s memory to the Teresian House Foundation, 200 Washington Ave. Extension, Albany, NY 12203.

A memorial service will be held in Teresian House chapel at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 25th.  Relatives and friends are invited.  Interment will be held privately at a later date.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
