Dorothy Fishlinger

ALBANY – Dorothy Jane (Marino) Fishlinger, 90, of Albany, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 in St. Peter’s Hospital.  Dorothy was born in Hollis, NY, the youngest of nine girls, to Anthony Marino and Theresa Miglino.  She married Elmer in 1949, having first met him when she was eight years old, and they spent 64 years together.  They began their life together on Long Island until 1965, when they purchased a 400 acre farm in upstate New York.  Once there, she began work in HR at St. Peter’s Hospital where she spent most of her career coordinating employee benefits, insisting new employees contribute to retirement savings as they walked in the door.  She retired in 1992 with over 27 years of service.  To this day, countless retirees thank her for their ability to retire comfortably.  Dorothy once wrote that “to be remembered by those we leave behind is not to die.”  She may be gone but remains forever in our hearts.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Dorothy VanDeWal (Arthur) of South Glens Falls, Elmer Fishlinger, Jr. (Ruth) of Riverside, CA, Anne Soldner (Mike) of Duanesburg, NY, and Walter Fishlinger, IV (Alice) of Albany; her grandchildren Steven, Timothy. Matthew, Mandi, Lena, Kristen, Andrew and Emily. She was predeceased by her husband Elmer in 2013, her son James in 2020, her granddaughter Diane VanDeWal, and her siblings Anne, Carmella, Emily, Margaret, Martha, Camilla, Katherine and Adrienne.

The family would especially like to thank Sister Katherine Graber for her lifetime of devotion to the entire family, but especially her friend Dorothy.
