ALBANY – On Friday August 5, 2022, Curtisteen “Curt” Gates died peacefully at home in Albany surrounded by her family at the age of 89. Born to Lillie Pearl and Wallace in Lake Wales Florida, the family migrated north to Port Henry, NY.
Choosing nursing as a career, Curt went to SUNY at Albany and received a BS degree then ultimately earning a masters of science degree from Russell Sage. She went on to have an extensive and deeply rewarding career navigating through the ranks to become a groundbreaking top school nurse teacher of color in the city school district of Albany. Curt held many various fulfilling positions for the district and retired after working 29 years.
While embracing many various challenges, none was as rewarding as the consummate homemaker, mother of five and a devoted wife. She never let an opportunity slip by to hone her God-given skills of class, style and taste to shape the vision of her American dream. She lived by the strong philosophy of accomplishing your goals by never ever giving up on your will to dream big without any limitations.
Preceded in death by husband Norman and sister Juanita DuBoise. Survived by daughters Gina, Vikki, Leslie (husband Martin), Kim, and son Norman. Grandchildren include Maurice (wife Jessica) and Kassidy, great grandchild Brielle, nephew Tillman and niece Tracy.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 10th at 11:00 a.m. in the Hans funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, NY. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
