ALBANY – Virginia A. Welnhofer, 91, of Albany passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at St. Peter’s Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. She was born in Chicago and was the daughter of the late John B. and Amelia A. Wey. Virginia was an administrative assistant for the commissioner of the New York State Education Department and with the Attorney General’s Office, retiring several years ago. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and spending time with her cherished grandchildren. Virginia was an active member of Holy Cross Church and All Saints Catholic Church. She will be fondly remembered for her genuine care and concern for others.

Virginia is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Frank J. Welnhofer. She is the devoted mother of Judi (Ron) Frey and David (Sharon) Welnhofer. Virginia is the grandmother of David (Tinamarie), Steven and Emily Frey, Nathan, Alex and Lila Welnhofer. She is the also survived by her great-granddaughters, Aurora and Astra.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 8:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to All Saints Catholic Church, 12 Rosemont St., Albany, NY 12203, in memory of Virginia A.
