WATERVLIET – On November 9, 2016 Martha McCann passed away at her home on Boght Road in Watervliet. She was predeceased by her parents Bettie and Paul McCann in 2005 and 2008 respectively. Martha was born in Albany on December 10, 1955 and within days was placed in the care of St. Catherine’s Infant Home. For the remainder of her life she was under the care of staff specializing in the provision of services to persons with developmental disabilities.
Martha is survived by her seven brothers and sisters – Annette (James) Facteau of Harwich, MA; David (Nancy) McCann of Guilderland; Mary Beth Barry (Daniel Murphy) of Watervliet; James (Sherron) McCann of Long Beach, CA; Therese McCann of Delmar; Kevin (Nancy) McCann of Delmar; and Dennis (Rita) McCann of Albany.
Martha’s family would like to express its heartfelt appreciation to all of those front-line and behind the scenes people who, over the course of more than 60 years, provided Martha with the high quality care she needed 24/7. This includes staff, who during the 1950s-1990s, worked on her behalf at the Rome Developmental Center, the Oswald D. Heck Developmental Center, and most recently her caregivers in Colonie and Watervliet. In addition, Martha very much enjoyed the daytime activities she participated in at the Warren, Washington and Albany Counties Chapter of NYSARC on Krumkill Road in Albany.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Saturday morning at 8:00am.
