December 23, 2020 By Hans Funeral Home 12 Condolences

Marian

SCHENECTADY – Marian A. O’Connor, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center.  Born December 14, 1930 in Albany to John G. Wemple, Sr. and Marian (Van Deusen) Wemple, Marian graduated from Blessed Sacrament School and Vincentian Institute, Albany.   After raising her six children, she graduated from Schenectady County Community College with an Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies. She worked as a legal assistant with the NYS Attorney General’s Office and the Schenectady District Attorney’s Office.

Marian was married to Frank C. O’Connor, Jr. at Blessed Sacrament Church on September 23, 1950. After a joyous marriage of 63 years, Marian was predeceased by her loving husband Frank.

Marian was a Religious Education Teacher and member of the choir at St. John The Baptist Church, Schenectady.  She was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Rosary Society at St. Joseph’s Church, Scotia.  Marian was a proud member of the Dutch Settlers Society of Albany and served as their corresponding secretary for many years.  She enjoyed cross country skiing, swimming and dancing with her husband, Frank, and they loved to travel and delighted in many ocean cruises together.  She especially loved their trips to Ireland and Hawaii.  Most of all she loved celebrating with her family.  Marian and Frank retired to Port Orange, Florida for several years before returning north to be with their family.

Marian was also predeceased by her son, Joseph P. O’Connor (Margaret Janeski) and her daughter, Deborah A. Marino (Robert). She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen M. Ryan (Frank) and Judith M. Dixon and her sons Frank C. O’Connor, III (Carol Kirk) and Thomas J. O’Connor (Kimberly Usas).  She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, her brother John G. Wemple, Jr. and her sister Joan Burns.  She was predeceased by her sister Carolyn Payne.

Due to the current virus pandemic, Marian’s funeral mass will be live-streamed only (no in person attendance) on December 30, 2020 at 2:00 PM from St. Kateri Tekakwitha church.  Arrangements by Hans Funeral Home, and please see their website www.hansfuneralhome.com to leave condolences and for a link to the services.  Interment at Park Cemetery, Scotia will be held at a later date.  Her family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff at Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care. Marian’s family requests, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her memory to ALS Association, Dana Farber Cancer Institute or Rett Syndrome Research Trust.

Marion was a fellow resident here at Cambridge Manor in Scotia. She was a vibrant lady who enjoyed life to its fullest. I remember her at the pool here at our complex in the afternoons, with her cocktail and sun hat. She was a lovely woman and will be dearly missed. My sincere condolences to her family at this sad time.
