
ALBANY – Maria Teresa Commisso, 46, of Albany, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Albany Medical Center. Maria was born in Albany, and lived here all her life. She was a graduate of Linton High School, and was employed by the New York State Office of General Services and by Albany County. She also served as a volunteer through Living Resources at PetSmart.
Maria is the daughter of Vincenzina Commisso and the late Cosimo Commisso. She is survived by her brothers Frank Commisso (Delores Womack) of Rotterdam, and Vincent Commisso (Courtney) of Ballston Spa; her nephews Frank, Nicolas, and Michael Commisso; her aunts Angelina Commisso of Westmere, Angie Camarata (Christopher) of Guilderland, Rose Femia of Italy, and Ida Commisso of Italy; her uncles Antonio Commisso of Naples, FL, and Giuseppe Commisso (Franca) of Toronto, Canada. She was predeceased by her aunts Rosina DeLeo, Maria Belcastro, and Mela Commisso, her uncles Cosimo DeLeo and Giuseppe Commisso, and her cousin Christopher Dailey. Maria is also survived by many cousins.
Maria was a huge fan of pets, especially dogs, and volunteered time working with them at PetSmart. Maria loved to be around her big extended family watching Moonstruck, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, MASH, and the Golden Girls. She was an integral part of our family holiday gatherings, where she enjoyed the occasional glass of “vino.” Maria was kind and compassionate to all around her, even throughout her extended illness.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Albany Medical Center, especially the doctors and nurses of the ICU, for the wonderful care they provided to Maria.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m., and from there to All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St. (behind CVS) at 9:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. The family suggests memorial contributions to Living Resources Foundation, 300 Washington Avenue Ext., Albany, NY 12203-7303. Frank, I am deeply saddened to hear of Maria ‘ s passing. She was a extrordanary young lady. I will always remember the conversations with her (on the bus) going to work. She loved her family so much. I regret not keeping In touch with her. And yes, she loved her home made vino. My condolences to you and your family. She was a great person. Sincerely.
