DELMAR – Lorraine E. (Mahota) Boyle, 65, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2013 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Hudson, NY to the late William Mahota and the late Veronica (Witko) Mahota.

Lorraine grew up in Hudson and Greenport where she graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. After high school she attended SUNY Plattsburgh and graduated Cum Laude from the University at Albany.

She began work for Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Co. in San Francisco, CA and later transferred to New York Telephone Co. in Albany, NY. After completing her bachelor’s degree Lorraine accepted a position at the Bethlehem Central School District.

Lorraine often said she had the best job in the world because she loved the opportunity to spend time with the high school students. She frequently volunteered to chaperone extracurricular activities including dances, proms, field trips, and sporting events. One of Lorraine’s most cherished experiences was time the players requested she perform in the BC Eagle mascot costume at the Girls Varsity Basketball sectional and state tournament games.  She retired from the school district in 2008.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, cooking, jewelry making, and many crafts as well as reading, exercising, swimming, kayaking, and travel. Lorraine served as Co-President of the Delmar Home Crafts Club, Co-President of the Elsmere Elementary School PTA, and her daughter’s Brownie Troop Co-Leader.  Lorraine was always a strong supporter of her children’s interests and activities.  Most of all she loved being a mother and caring for her family.

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 45 years, James, of Delmar, NY; her son Dr. James R. Boyle, Jr. of Carl Junction, MO; her daughter Raegan M. (Boyle) Maddalla (Joseph) of Troy, NY; her sister Ellen (Mahota) Hart (John) of Pleasant Valley, NY; her brother William Mahota of Paris, France; her niece Jennifer (Hart) Seidel (Robert) of Reistertown, MD; her niece Kristen Hart (William Ackourey) of Boca Raton, FL; her nephew Danya Mahota of  Brewster, MA; other relatives; and numerous friends.

As in life, Lorraine will continue to give, as she had chosen to be a part of the Anatomical Gift Program at the Albany Medical College.  In keeping with Lorraine’s wishes there will be no calling hours or public funeral service.

In lieu of flowers the memorial donations may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204) or the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, (2013 Albany Walk) (1111 Stewart Ave, Bethpage, NY 11714).

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. David Shaffer and all the wonderful people from NYOH, Albany Medical Center, St. Peter’s Hospital, Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, and Mass General Hospital who gave Lorraine outstanding care.  The family also wishes to acknowledge how the support from Lorraine’s many friends helped her persevere during her fight against pancreatic cancer.  To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.

Dear Jim, Jimmy and Raegan. I’m thinking about you. The daylilies Lorraine and Raegan gave me five years ago for my wedding shower began blooming on Sunday (7/7). The first color to bloom was yellow which I feel is Lorraine’s way of saying goodbye.

I cherish the memories of the times we all shared.

I love you. Becky (Bradt) Pelton

Jim and family, I am still trying to process all this, as I am sure you are doing the same. Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. I loved my Lorraine like a sister. I have the best memories of her and all the craziness while we were in Plattsburgh. I never dreamed two people could hit it off right from the first day we met, but it did. I am so sorry she had to go through this.

Condolence from Michael Tebbano on July 14th, 2013 7:00 am

My thoughts and prayers are offered to Lorraine’s family. In my years working with her at BCHS she always spoke of her family and the pride she had in all of you. She was an exceptional person with a heart of gold, who deeply loved the students and BC community. I was saddened when she retired, having felt BC lost a valued member of the school community. Her passing saddens me further that a bright light of hope in the community has left us.

Condolence from Tina Mohler on July 15th, 2013 11:58 am

Hello Big and Little Jim, and all the rest of Lorraine’s family–

It was a pleasure to see Lorriane at Christmas. I remember her as a courageous, vibrant woman, and see her grinning in the sunlight of the Manning’s living room. I always enjoyed having Jim and Lorriane come over to the Mannings, whether it was at the annual Christmas morning brunch, or our Shotgun Wedding party. I always felt like they both were part of my people. I will miss her!

Best wishes!

Tina Mohler

Loraine’s family,

I had many conversations with Loraine as we worked at BCHS for many years–as far back when her son played football. I always enjoyed seeing her and chatted about everything. I last saw her at CVS and again at Planet Fitness and she had such a good attitude. What courage! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. She will be missed be many people.

Condolence from Bob Mead on July 15th, 2013 8:38 pm

Dear Jim, I write this with a heavy heart and, for one who has never had a problem expressing myself, I now find the words coming slowly.

I know that the battle you fought together this past year was a rough one. Through the bits and pieces you let me in on at TU meetings and from what I have read within these pages I know that Loraine was a giving person and had lived a worthy life. And now in death she is still giving. I am in awe of this woman.

I sense too that she was just as worried about you as you were about her.

Jim, her hurt is over now, but yours will linger with the memories.
When you are able to take a deep breath again, call me – and we’ll go fishing.

My very heartfelt regards to you and your family, Bob

Please accept my sincere sympathy on the recent loss of your dear loved one. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. May the God of comfort be with you in this time of sorrow. May these words bring you hope, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4) This promise will be fulfilled one day, until then, may all your memories sustain you in the days to come.
