ALBANY – Josie Chirieleison, 87, of Albany, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland.  Josie was born in New York City, but lived most of her life on Long Island.  She worked as a dressmaker prior to her marriage and in later years, and for a time together with her husband owned and operated the Red Mill Food Shop, a sandwich shop in Patchogue, NY.  She also enjoyed gambling and loved to travel to Florida to play the numbers and horses.  Josie also enjoyed gardening, painting and traveling, and will be remembered for her pride in her family, her sense of humor, and how she enjoyed talking and joking with others.

Mrs. Chirieleison was predeceased by her husband Rocco in 1999.  She is survived by her sons Rocco Chirieleison of Albany, and Joseph Chirieleison of Long Island; and by her granddaughters Wendy and Lisa Chirieleison.

Funeral services will be held in Our Lady of Mercy Life Center at a time to be announced.  Relatives and friends are invited  Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.  To leave a message of condolence for the family or send a sympathy card, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.

    Joe, I am so sorry I know how much you loved your mom and the glow she had on her face when went to visit her was priceless. She may have not remembered anything but she KNEW you were her son up until our last visit. Rest in Peace Josie always in our hearts

    I am so sorry Joe, I know how much your mom meant to you. The disease may have taken her memory she may have forgotten every aspect of her life. But.. She knew who you were everytime you visited her. The smile that came across her face soon as she had seen you across the room entering. The hours you drove there and back to visit with her. Your hands were tied she is now free beside your Dad where she wanted to be. Rest in Peace Momma Josie. Forever in our hearts

    Joseph, I am so sorry to hear about Aunt Josie. I will always remember the great summers we had when we came out to Long Island. I will miss Aunt Josie and Uncle Rocco’s famous rice pudding. I will miss them both. They are together. Love them both, Rest in Peace.

    Joseph, so sorry for your (our) loss. I will always remember the early stages of my life and how you and your parents were so loving and giving. I love Uncle Rocco and Aunt Josie the great memories are endless. However , Joe! Your mom was a priceless jewel I will treasure forever, thanks to her loving being I’m a better person. Your Mom adored you, I remember her waiting for you to arrive to serve you a special meal. I remember how she told me endless stories of how proud she was of you, and how you always went out of your way for both your parents.I’m so happy you, the puppies,Jane and I got to share her 87th Birthday with her. Aunt Josie lit up the nursing home with her endless smile and kind way.XOXOXO
