BRUNSWICK – Jayna Jo Schenk, 28, of Brunswick, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. Jayna was born in Albany and lived in the Capital District all her life. Jayna worked as a paramedic for the Mohawk Ambulance Service, and also for E5 Support Services. She was a member of the Ravena-Coeymans Yacht Club, and enjoyed skiing, and riding dirt bikes and ATVs. She also loved and was devoted to her dogs.
Jayna is survived by her parents Douglas and Diane Bloomer Schenk of Delmar; her grandmother Elizabeth Schenk of Pittsford; her sister Casey Bryant (Matthew Carter) of Delmar; her brother Corey Bryant of Schodack; her niece and nephew Lauren and Shawn Carter; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and by her beloved dogs Klaus and Hallie. She will be dearly missed by her family and her many friends and colleagues, especially Kayla, Cabrina, Nathanial, Patrick and Tyler.

Words cannot convey the depth of the sorrow that I and many others in the EMS Community share with Jayna’s friends and family members in this time of tragedy. We may compete, we may argue, we may disagree … we are all one very large family and stand with you all today and always.

I don’t know if you guys will remember, but i was in girl scouts with Jayna. She is a beautiful person, funny and random and big hearted. I will miss her deeply. We haven’t talked in many years, and I wish I could change that now. Love and hugs to your family. Jayna changed the world with her soul, and you raised her to be that beautiful person. Thank you for being her parents and know that your community is here for you for anything you need.

Jayna was my best friend, and the sister I never had. She was never scared to give me her honest opinion, and there was no such thing as a short phone call with her. She loved to talk about everything and nothing. She always brightened my day, and was very understanding and caring. She would drop everything if I just needed some company.
My prayers are with her family. Doug and Diane have always been there for me through thick and thin, and I really feel for them.
Casey and Corey, I am so sorry for the loss of your sister. She always wanted the best for you guys, and she loved her niece and nephew so much. She always talked about them any chance she had.
Rebekah, thank you for always being there for Jayna through everything. She loved you like a sister, and I am so glad we met through jayna and I will always be here for you.

Our deepest condolences on your loss. Often mistaken as a demure and meek person, Jayna was a force to be reckoned with and truly embodied our values. She embraced our core values and was an ethical and compassionate professional. She will undoubtedly leave a void in many lives.

I had the pleasure of working with and knowing Jayna from Albany Med ED and through mutual calls for service in Schenectady. Her loss isn’t just a loss for her family and friends, but also for the our entire community. On behalf of all first responders, thanks for all you have done. You will be missed.

What can one say about the loss of a child, except that it has to be the strongest hurt ever. Even though she was our “dockmate” unfortunately we never met Jayna in person but mom told us her story, and we could certainly appreciate what a special person she was.
Always remember the good times and keep her in your hearts.
Donna and Scott Longstreet
Our condolences go out to all of Jayna’s family and friends. So very sorry for your loss. Such a sweet and lovely girl.

Doug and Diane- I will always remember your deep devotion to Jayna and how happy you were to watch her fight off her disease. I recall seeing her smiling face after she worked so hard to recover from her treatments. Nobody was happier and prouder than you about how she was as a person and as a patient. If I recall correctly, I think Jayna was running the AMC Children’s Hospital as a patient. 🙂 The staff all loved her. Everywhere she went everybody was captivated by her determination, spirit, happiness and gratitude. When I think about seeing how happy you were as Jayna’s parents I can only imagine after worrying about losing her before how devastating her passing must feel. Lois and I are deeply saddened by your loss and we hope that you will find some comfort from family and friends during this horrific time.
