
ALTAMONT – James Edward Bunkoff, 75, of Altamont, entered eternal life on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at St. Peter’s Hospital with his loving family at his side. Jim was born in Albany and lived in the area all his life, eventually settling in Altamont, NY.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970, and upon returning home, joined the family business, Bunkoff Construction, and met the love of his life, Diane. He then founded Shaker Equipment Rentals, which he operated for many years until his retirement during which he was the Region 1 Director of the American Rental Association, and president of the Tri State Rental Association. He enjoyed bass fishing and was a member of the Albany Area Bassmasters. Jim was happiest when spending time with his lovely wife, children and grandchildren, gardening, feeding birds and bird watching, walking with his dogs and exploring his land at the foot of Thacher Park.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Diane M. Watson Bunkoff; his daughters Candice D. Sledziewski (Bill Kraft) of Port Charlotte, FL, and Margaret M. Bunkoff-Chevalier (John Chevalier) of Halfmoon, NY; his brothers Richard A. Bunkoff (Delores) of The Villages, FL, and Steven L. Bunkoff (Michelle) of Charlotte, NC; his brothers in law John P. Watson and Gregory M. Watson of Westerlo, and Paul D. Watson (Amy) of So. Westerlo; and by his grandchildren Gregory and Garek Sledziewski, and Iris and Johnny Chevalier.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Monday prior to the service beginning at 4 p.m. Interment will be in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Tuesday, February 21st at 12:30 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to Unity Lutheran Church, made payable to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 1500 Western Ave, Albany, NY 12203.
