
ALBANY – Helen Dorothy Earl Coffey, 95, of Albany, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Teresian House. Helen was born in Albany, the daughter of the late James A. Earl and Mary Gill Earl. She lived here all her life, and was a communicant of the former St. Margaret Mary’s Church and All Saints Catholic Church. Known to most as Dorothy, she was totally devoted to her family, and was known for her generosity, compassion, warmth, selflessness, and for being non-judgmental.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband John Coffey in 1985. She is survived by her children John Coffey (Lydia) of Guilderland, Robert Coffey (Gail McQuade) of Voorheesville, Kathleen “Kathy” Davis (Gary) of Colonie, Mary Coffey Plumer of East Greenbush, Dorothy Duell (Mike) of Slingerlands, Elizabeth “Beth” McNamara (John) of Las Vegas, NV, Edward Coffey of Ballston Spa, Anne Byerwalters (Joseph) of East Greenbush, and Timothy Coffey (Kristina) of Colonie; by fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her siblings William, John, and James Earl, Maryanne “Betty” Benoit, and Jane Leonard.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Teresian House for the wonderful care they provided to Dorothy during her stay.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Saturday morning at 8:00, and from there to the Church of St. Clare, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie, at 9:00. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301; or to Teresian House, 200 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12203.
