ALBANY – Glen R. Weatherholtz, 73 of Albany, died Sunday, August 14, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle of esophageal cancer. Glen’s devoted wife Roz of just under 50 years remained faithfully by his bedside during his final moments.
Glen was born on September 14, 1937 in New Holland, PA, however Glen has resided in Albany since the age of eight when his family moved from PA to Albany. He was the son of the late Glen (Slim) and Blanch Weatherholtz and the brother of the late Wayne Weatherholtz. Glen graduated from St. John’s in 1951, Christian Brothers Academy in 1955, Albany Business College in 1959 and later served in the National Guard for five years. In 1962 Glen was chosen as one of the original fifty employees of which 5,000 applicants were competing for employment with a new Canadian company known as Atlantic (LaFarge) Cement in Ravena, NY. Glen then began his life long career as an extremely dedicated, hardworking, devout loyal union man of which he retired after 45 ½ years of service. Glen was a true south end boy who loved his friends. Glen’s friends are the same today that he has had since eight years old which shows tremendous loyalty. He was also a faithful friend to the many men with whom he worked with along with our lovely and caring neighbors.
Glen is survived by his beloved wife Roz, his devoted daughters Debbie and (Jack) Crowder, Beth Weatherholtz , Carrie Deters and his sisters Dawn and Sharon Weatherholtz, his cherished grandchildren Misty Crowder and fiancée Scott Brady, Cody Crowder, and Crystal and (Nick) Anastasio, Tys and Aspen Deters and his special great granddaughter Isabella Sofia Anastasio. The family would like to send their deep appreciation to the extraordinary, caring and loving staff of the Community Hospice of Albany. Dear Roz, Beth, Carrie and Debbie: My deepest, sincerest condolences to all your family. I was so happy to be Glens neighbor and just sit and chat from time to time. Through the years Glen always offered a helping hand or a suggestion to my many outdoor projects. He fought long and hard to get through his illness, but he knew when it was time to let go. Glen was a nice man and a great dad and husband. Roz, you are an amazing, strong woman and I so admire your dedication and devotion in caring for Glen till the end. He will be missed by all that knew him. May he forever RIP. Blessings to all, Love Pam

As far back as i can remember, as a child then adult, this man was a gentle soul a little shy but with opinions that he believed in. He loved his family and his God. We are all truly blessed to have lived long enough to have known this man.Rest in peace ” SQUIRT”
