ALBANY – Much loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great uncle, friend, and neighbor, George R. Wiley, 85, of Albany, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital.  George was born in Albany, the son of the late Joseph G. and Mildred Wiley.  He lived here all his life and was referred to as “The Baron” of Partridge Street.  He was a graduate of Vincentian Institute, and was employed for many years by the New York Telephone Co. and then NYNEX.  He was a member of the Albany Kiwanis Club, a lifelong parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, and also a great fan of the New York Yankees.  He also enjoyed listening to classical music and particularly the opera, attending many performances at the MET.

George is survived by his dear wife E. Nancy Frederick Wiley; his children Joseph G. Wiley (Christina), Thomas M. Wiley (Jodi), and John F. Wiley all of Albany, and Andrew C. Wiley (Lori) of Niskayuna, and Mary E. Dowdall (Damon) of Leesburg, VA; his grandchildren Lauren and Peter Wiley, and Kathleen, Christopher, and Brayden Dowdall.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Monday morning at 9:30, and from there to Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave., Albany at 10:30.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4-7 p.m.  Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.  The family suggests memorial contributions to Samaritan Shelters, Inc., 593 River Rd., Glenmont, NY 12077.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, send a sympathy card, or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.

Nancy and family. What can I say about my fellow compadre? Everything under the sun that’s good and humorous. It was so nice to see George that day at Cardonas market. Seemed like it was meant to be.The world is a mystery sometimes….xx

    Dear Nancy and family:
I was out of town when George passed away and I read the obit
    in the Times Union.
I am very sorry for your loss. I often saw him at the supermarket
and he would always stop to chat with me. He always asked me what kind of car I was driving and always came over to check it out.
He was a great conversationalist and I will miss him on my trips to Hannaford.
May God Bless him and you Nancy.
    Sincerely,
    Bill McMahon
