Garrett A. “Gus” Shover

GUILDERLAND – Garrett Augustus “Gus” Shover, Jr., 96, of Guilderland, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Samaritan Hospital.  Gus was born in Albany, the son of the late Garrett A. Shover, Sr. and Mary Kenenger Shover.  He lived in the area all his life, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as well as in the Merchant Marine.  He was employed as an auto mechanic, a plumber, a cabinet maker, and as a boiler plant engineer at the State University at Albany.  He will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, and his interest in nature.  He was always willing to help a friend, neighbor, or family member.  He continued to educate himself throughout his adult life, and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren about many interests outside of school such as building or designing something, hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, book collecting, and exploring all that nature had to offer.

Gus was predeceased by his wife A. Frances Lobdell Shover.  He is survived by his children William Shover (Kathleen), Frances Wolf, Michael Shover (Deborah), and Patricia Wright (Scott); his grandchildren Kimberly Facteau (Brian), Jason Shover (Sheila), Alicia Russman (Richard), Shaun Bertok (Diane), and Hillary Adams (Thomas); his great grandchildren Katherine Facteau, Madison Shover, Grace Shover, Jessica Facteau, Emma Shover, and Julia Adams; and by several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother James Shover, and his sisters Mary Listfeldt and Barbara Ellery.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Rd, Latham on Friday, January 13th, at 11:00 a.m.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the church from 10-11 a.m., Friday morning prior to the mass.  Interment will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Patriot Flight, Inc., or to Wounded Warriors.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
