
GUILDERLAND – Francis G. “Frank” Zell, 84, of Guilderland, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016. Frank was born in Albany, the son of the late Francis J. and Ruth deSeve Zell. He lived in the area all his life. He was a graduate of Vincentian Institute in Albany, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a combat infantry sergeant, and was employed for many years by Johnson Controls. He was a member of the Zaloga Post and loved playing Tuesday night poker. To Frank, his family was everything, and brought him his greatest joy. He also was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Albany, and enjoyed wintering in Florida, and summering in Cape Cod.
Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife Dolores Morgan Zell in 2013. He is survived by his sons Brian F. Zell (Linda Uhl) of Slingerlands, and Matthew J. Zell, Sr. (Valerie Baldwin) of New Scotland; his sister Barbara A. Zell of Albany; his brother V. Joseph Zell (Bourbon Whitehead) of Sarasota, FL; his grandchildren Brianna, Morgan, Matthew Jr., and Fallon; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth L. Zell.
The family would like to thank the staff of Atria Guilderland, who were like extended family to Frank, and the staffs of St. Peter’s Hospital and Hospice for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Monday morning at 9:15 a.m., and from there to Blessed Sacrament Church, Central Ave., Albany at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3-7 p.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
