F. Delmer Gorgen

ALBANY  – F. Delmer Gorgen, 98, of Albany, died peacefully on Sunday, August 19, 2012 with his loving family by his side.  Mr. Gorgen was born in Albany, and lived in the area all his life.  He was the husband of the late Ruth Anne Mitchell.  Delmer courted and then married his childhood sweetheart from Albany’s south end, Ruth Anne Mitchell, with whom he spent 48 wonderful years.  Delmer was very proud of, and loved spending time with his family most of all.  They spent many summers at The Great Sacandaga and winters in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.  Delmer loved to travel and also enjoyed gardening and woodworking.  Delmer found great joy in playing bingo with his new extended family at the Atria Shaker Assisted Living.  He proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps.  He was employed by ATT in Albany.

Mr. Gorgen is survived by his only daughter Patricia Palmer and her husband Richard R. Palmer; his grandsons Richard K (Judith) Palmer and Michael A. (Margo) Palmer and (the late) Jeffrey Francis Palmer; his great-grandchildren Erica, Jeffrey and Mikaela, and Jake and Luke.  He was predeceased by his brothers Frederick, Joseph and William and his sister Helen Babcock.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Thursday morning at 9:30 and from there to The Parish of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph at 10:30 a.m., 50 Herrick Street, Rennselaer, NY.  Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.  The family would like to thank Dr. Sean Roche and the entire staff at the Albany Family Practice where he received such wonderful care.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Association for Research of Childhood Cancer, P.O.
