Elizabeth “Jane” James

GUILDERLAND – Elizabeth “Jane” James, 91, passed into the Lord’s loving arms October 7, 2022, surrounded by her family.  Elizabeth was born in Albany, the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Philip Sattler. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, William James Jr., and by her brother Adam Sattler and her Sister Marie Anderson.

Jane, as she was known, by her friends is survived by her four children, Carol Benson (Robert) of Long Lake, New York, William James(Andrea) of Butte, Montana, Rita Jones (William Lieberman) of Port Orange, Florida and Philip James of Guilderland; her grandchildren Philip Benson (Leslie Acurin), Sarah Hutchings(William), Adam James (Danielle), Dirck James (Whitney), and Kirstan Jones (John Smith); her great grandchildren Philip Benson, Evalyn Benson, Landon Benson, Lily Hutchings, William Hutchings, Dirck James II and Carter James; her nephews Morgan James (Mary) and David James (Kathy); and her niece Virginia James.

She graduated High School from Philip Schuyler in 1948 and entered Memorial School of Nursing where she graduated in 1951 as a Registered Nurse. Jane was proud of her alma mater and was active in her school alumni where she was administrative secretary for 22 Years.

Besides raising four children she was active in many organizations. She was a life member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary, Life member of the North Bethlehem FD Ladies Auxillary, member of the Albany African Violet Society and Life member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary. Jane was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter Van Rensselaer Star #256, and the Order of the Amaranth, Capital City Court 15 Albany.  Elizabeth enjoyed cooking for her family, knitting,sewing, reading and playing piano, She passed her love of music onto her children.  Jane leaves behind her life long friend Eleanor who supported her since they were young girls. Also, her long time friend Helen who has always been there for support.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.  Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to: OES Foundation (Order of the Eastern Star), Pounder Hall #106, 1400 Utica St, Oriskany NY 13424.  To leave a message of condolence for the family or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
