Edna Patricia Vanwely Smith

MAINEVILLE, OH – Edna Patricia VanWely Smith, 91, passed peacefully on August 6, 2016.  Edna was the daughter of the late Gilbert VanWely, and Edna Charlotte Seaman, born in Albany, New York on March 26, 1925.  Edna was married October 21, 1946, and worked for New York State as a senior account clerk on the State Office Campus.  She enjoyed quilting, camping, singing in the choir at church, and collecting Fenton glass.  She was an active member of St Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church, in Schenectady, NY.  Edna lived in Maineville, Ohio, for several years, but lived most of her life in Guilderland, NY.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edmund, on March 26, 2007, and her children Edmund Jr. on December 8, 1958 and another baby on November 24, 1960.  She is survived by her sons Michael Charles Smith (Paulette) of Birmingham, MI, William Edward Smith (Mary Jo) of Amsterdam, NY, Kevin Michael Smith (Sandra) of Richmond, VA, Robert Paul Smith (Susan) of Guilderland, NY, Thomas Martin Smith (Mollie) of Cincinnati, OH, and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Friday morning at 9:00, and from there to St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Rd, Schenectady, NY, at 10:00.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m.  Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland.  To leave a message of condolence for the family or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.
