
ALBANY – Earl F. Austin, 86, of Albany, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at his home with his loving family by his side. Earl was born in Providence, RI, but had lived in Albany since he was a child. He served in the New York National Guard. He also served on the Albany Police Department for 31 years, beginning in 1951, and retiring in 1982 as a detective, and then was employed by Siena College for nineteen years. He was a communicant of the Historic Church of St. Mary on Capitol Hill.
Earl is survived by his stepbrother Frank G. DeLong (Marsha) of Colonie. He was predeceased by his stepsister Martha DeLong Pezzula (Armand), his brothers George, Eddie and Louie Austin, and his sister Rose Farragott. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephew Alice J. Brown of Albany, Nancy Roselan (Harry) of Guilderland, and Darren DeLong (Kristen) of Albany; his great nieces Barbara Brown and Katherine Brown; his great great nephew Wyatt Mead; and by several other nieces and nephews.
Earl’s family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the wonderful care given to Earl by Dr. David Putnam, Trish Putnam, Dr. James Puleo, Jr., Dr. Roberta Miller, and Dr. William Kowal.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Thursday morning at 9:00, and from there to the Historic Church of St. Mary on Capitol Hill, Pine & Lodge Streets, Albany at 10:00. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. The family suggests donations of blood to the Red Cross in Earl’s memory.
