
COLONIE – Donald J. Fittizzi, 85, of Colonie, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Albany Medical Center. Donald was born in New Jersey, but moved to Albany in the early 1970s. He was an executive with the Grand Union Supermarkets for 25 years, employed in New Jersey and Syracuse. After moving to Albany, he founded Bumby Bakeries, which grew to eleven locations throughout the Capital District, before opening the Deli Warehouse in Colonie. He was a fair and proud businessman for more than 40 years and generously gave back to his community.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Donald was predeceased by his wife of 36 years Rose Marie Fittizzi and his former wife, Jeanne (Trusewicz) Fairchild; He is survived by his daughters Donna Fazzio of Melbourne, FL, Darlene Tanski (Stephen) of Colonie, and Drema Barber (Timothy) of Colonie; his sisters Ginny DiFiore (Andy) of Suffern, and Joanne Rizzo (Sal) of Canton, MA; his beloved grandchildren Michael and Ashley Tanski, and Brandon, Kyle, Patrick, and Bryce Barber; his cherished nieces and nephews and his very special Deli Family. He will be sorely missed by special friends and all who knew him.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the residents and staff of the Teresian House for making Don such a welcomed member of their community. The friendships he enjoyed will always be fondly remembered.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Infant of Prague Chapel at the Teresian House, 200 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Friday from 4-7 p.m. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather in the funeral home at 4:30 pm Friday for a service of prayer and remembrance. So sorry to read of your Dad’s passing. He used to come in to Grandma’s Restaurant and I would wait on him (his wife too years ago). Also enjoyed visiting with him at the Deli Warehouse. A nice man who loved to visit and joke with me. He will be missed by all who knew him.
