In Memorial

AVERILL PARK – Deirdre A. Swedick- King embraced her Lord and Savoir on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 after a short but courageous fight with cancer. She was born in Troy, NY, the daughter of Maureen McClune Swedick, on October 4, 1962.  Deirdre grew up in Albany and began her 26 year career as a clerk at the New York State Retirement system at age 23.  She was a dedicated employee who loved her job. There wasn’t a lost folder under anyone’s messy desk that she couldn’t locate. Although she was ‘just a clerk’ she taught many newcomers and bigwigs above her how the retirement system worked and often took on the workload of three people. She was a private person but not so much that she was afraid to tell you where the bear sat in woods.  She was respected dearly and had a tremendous loyalty in her faith.

Deirdre reluctantly left behind her loving husband John,  her two children Shannon Marie and Paul Vincent, her beautiful granddaughter and her brother Thomas Swedick.  She also leaves behind her true friend and “bubba” Gina Costantini.  Deirdre was predeceased by her mother in 2007.

The family would like to send out a special thanks to all those who sent cards and donated time on her behalf as it brought Deirdre great comfort to realize just how many people that really cared about her and her well being.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 10:30 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4th Avenue & Franklin St., Albany.  Relatives and friends are invited.  There will be no calling hours.  Interment will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.  The family suggests memorial contributions to Community Hospice of Rensselaer, 295 Valley View Boulevard, Rensselaer, NY 12144-9309.  To leave a message of condolence for the family or send a sympathy card please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.

Condolence from Donna Clark on February 15th, 2012 5:51 pm

I only knew Dee of a few years. She was a good worker; a tough cookie, and she was a devote Christian. Her cubicle was evidence of her faith; her devotion to her son was also apparent when she would bring him to work, and show him the ropes.
I am sorry for your loss.

My mother was a wonderful woman with a beautiful soul and without her I would not be here today. I appreciate all the kind words and thoughts that everyone has said about my mother. I know she would be more than grateful. Mom I just want you to know that we love and miss you dearly and not a day will go by that I won’t think of you and all you encouraging wisdom. I love you more than anything and now you can finally rest in peace. And I can’t wait to teach Genevia all the great things there is to know about her loving mamma. See you on ther side mom!

I meet Deidre through our sons and I will never forget how nice and thoughtful she was to bring my son home after spending the night back when he was in the sixth grade. She always had a big smile on her face and was always nothing but generous and kind to us, just as John is. My thoughts and prayers are with the her family as you navigate through this difficult time- I am so sorry for your loss. The McDonough Family
