NORTH GREENBUSH – Christine A. Hook, 41, daughter of Deacon Neil and Carol Hook died unexpectedly at her residence on Friday, February 8.  She was a graduate of Guilderland High School.  She attended Junior College of Albany and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Alfred University.  She received two masters degrees in Literacy and Special Education from the Sage Colleges.  She was a special education teacher in the Cairo-Durham Central Schools but had to leave teaching due to an injury.  She worked part-time in several medical offices until her long-term disability forced her to retire.  She recently took up her art work and has several paintings in local galleries.  For the past three years she also wrote a blog called Grace Lines that covered her journey with her disability.  Throughout her years with her disability she still had a ready smile and a great sense of humor.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Helen and brother Paul and sister-in-law Joanne as well as two beloved nieces – Jessica Cameron and Julia Hook.  She is also survived by her aunt, June Jackson and uncle, Edward Willard and several cousins.  She also leaves behind her two lovable cats – Shay and Chili.

There will be viewing hours at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Troy on Tuesday, February 12th from 4-8 p.m.  A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, February 14th  at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s.  Relatives and friends are invited.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hans Funeral Home, Albany.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, PO Box 105, Glenolden, PA 19036 or at www.cmtausa.org.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, send a sympathy card, or obtain directions to the church, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.

Condolence from Wendy Sossner on February 10th, 2013 5:16 pm

I was so very sorry to hear about Christine’s sudden passing. She was such an amazing person. We used to work together when we were both fresh out of school and her sense of humor made what could have been a very stressful period, a highly enjoyable one. She was the first friend I told that I was pregnant and to this day I remember that she was one of the first people there at the hospital when my daughter was born. Christine made the most beautiful picture for my daughter’s nursery that everyone who visited commented on with amazement. Just recently we reconnected via Facebook, talking about the old days and Scout & Atticus. She was a warm and loving person and I am a better person for having known her. I am truly sorry for your, and the World’s, loss.

I will always cherish the friendship we had that started with her first day at pool therapy, and our special get-togethers at Hot Harry’s. She will always be the brightest star that shines on us.

Condolence from Jill Brass on February 11th, 2013 6:13 pm

Just reading through Chris’ Facebook Page again. Once of her last posts: “it’s my plan to put more beauty into the world, and maybe broaden people’s minds through my paintings. I think I’m happier”. She brought much beauty into the world just by being here. That won’t fade any time soon. She was a lovely person and our memories of her will always be good.

Dear Neil, Carol and family.\,
There are times when the right words just don’t exist, times when feelings are too deep to be expressed…but at this sad time I hope it will help you a little to know how much I am thinking of you.

Condolence from Bob & Pat Sweeney on February 12th, 2013 11:04 am

Dear Neil & Carol,
Words are lost for now as God has called one of his angels home. When the Lord calls our loved ones home, he leaves a gift of memories in exchange. It is in those memories we start to find peace and comfort. We are here if you want to talk.
Love and Peace,
Bob & Pat

Condolence from Lenka Vodicka on February 13th, 2013 8:54 pm

I have never met you, but I feel close to you all the same. Christine and I were friends online. She and I shared many stories about teaching and art. She was always honest, funny, and hopeful. She made me smile more times that I can count. I will miss her so much! I send comfort and peace in these difficult times. I am so sad to say goodbye to such a good, kind friend. I have to believe she is dancing in the sky, sending sunshine and saying, “I’m fine, really. Watch me dance.”

With peace, Lenka

Condolence from Lynn Rowe on February 14th, 2013 8:56 pm

I knew Christine through the CMT support group and was inspired by her. I feel such a sense of loss. Christine gave more than she took from this life. She showed us how to shine through adversity and despite whatever our troubles are in this life are, she showed us that we can rise above it and make a difference in the lives of those around us. Christine touched ours hearts and will be greatly missed.
