Charlotte M. Hummel

DELMAR – Charlotte M. Hummel, 91, formerly of Albany, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Delmar.  Charlotte was born in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Walter R. Hummel and Rose Oswald Hummel.  She lived in Schenectady most of her life and moved to Albany in retirement.  She was a graduate of Draper High School, and was employed for many years by the New York State Dept. of Unemployment, retiring in her eighties.

Charlotte is survived by her brother Walter C. Hummel, and her sister Arlene Rapant; and by several nieces and nephews.  Charlotte loved her cats, and was predeceased by her cat Pumpkin, and is survived by her cat Tess.  Charlotte was adopted by the following family members who celebrated each holiday and family milestone with her: Jan Mislan and daughter Barbara (Ned Morgan), Joe Mislan and Pat McQuilkin, Linda Meineker and Paul and Sue Meineker, Barbara Countermine and Mary Ann Monaco, and Kim Gecewicz and Mary.

Charlotte greatly appreciated the wonderful care she received at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home during her stay.  Her friends want to thank them for all the great times she enjoyed and all the help they received.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St., Albany (behind CVS) on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5-7 p.m.  Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Schenectady.  To leave a message of condolence for the family or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.

Dear Friends,
As a Hospice Volunteer I sat with Charlotte Friday morning, She opened her eyes when I called her name but she went right back to sleep. I sat quietly by her side for awhile and prayed silently for her, her family and staff.

My deepest sympathies go out to all of you for the loss of Charlotte. She was a very special lady.Iworked with Charlotte in the Labor Department years ago, and although we didn’t stay in contact, she was often in my thoughts.May she rest in peace.
