Bertie C. Reed, Jr.

Bertie

PALM COAST, FL – Bertie C. Reed, Jr., 85, formerly of Delmar, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at his new home in Palm Coast, Florida.  Bertie was born in Albany to the late Margaret E. Wood and Bertie C. Reed, Sr.  He lived in Albany and Delmar until moving to Florida last year.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was employed for many years by the Bethlehem School District, and in retirement worked as a school crossing guard in Delmar.

Bertie is survived by his children Cynthia Kerr (James) of Slingerlands, Suzanne Evans (Dean) of Albany, Mark Reed (Luz) of Albany, and Matthew Reed (Angela) of Palm Coast, FL; the mother of his children Faith St. Clair Reed of Delmar; his sister Carol Cady of Delmar; his grandchildren Eric Kerr (Christina), Jennifer Kerr, Steven and Chad Reed, and Michelle, Heather, Caitlyn, and Christopher Reed; his great grandchildren Alana and Aiden Kerr; his close nephew Norman Greenfield (Marion); and by many more nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his son Michael Reed, his sisters Emeline Toomey and Marjorie Cross, and by his brothers Whitney and Henry Reed.

A Celebration of Life service was held at The Palm Coast Community Church.  Burial with military honors was held privately in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.  To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.

    Bertie was always so kind to me and the other children at Elsmere and in the neighborhood. My condolences to his family. He was a local treasure, he will be missed!

    I had the very good fortune of working many years with Bertie at Elsmere School. Any time that anyone needed his assistance, he was there to help in his kind and hardworking way. He was a friend to all and a truly valued member of our staff.
