Anthony

VOORHEESVILLE – Anthony Marotta, 82, of Voorheesville, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital.  Anthony was born in Scotia, the son of the late Giuseppe and Rosa Fasulo Marotta.  He lived in the Capital District all his life.  He was a graduate of Philip Schuyler High School, and attended Ithaca College before serving in the U.S. Navy for three years.  He then graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1958.   He loved sports and played basketball, football and baseball in high school, and basketball at St. Lawrence.  He was employed for thirty years by Eastern Railroad Builders, Inc., and then by the New York State Dept. of Transportation Railroad Division until retirement.  Anthony was a member of the Falcons Club of Philip Schuyler High School graduates, and enjoyed assisting at Guilderland Little League, and visiting the gym.  Anthony’s main focus in life however, was his family, which brought him the greatest joy.

Anthony is survived by his beloved wife Jean M. Antonucci Marotta; his children Michael Marotta of Atlanta, GA, Lynn Marotta Berndt (Elvin) of Bethlehem, PA, and Steven Marotta (Michelle Bowen Marotta) of Slingerlands; his brother George Marotta (Jean) of Palo Alto, CA; his grandchildren Zachary Marotta, Ally Berndt, Sydney Marotta, Skylar Marotta, and Lucas Maltzman; and by many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brothers James, Carmine, and Diamond Joseph Marotta.

A celebration of Anthony’s life will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Saturday afternoon, December 17th, at 5:00 pm.  Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 3-5 pm.  Interment will be held privately at a later date.  The family suggests memorial contributions to Rails to Trails (http://www.railstotrails.org/support-us/memorial-contribution/).  To leave a message of condolence for the family or obtain directions to the funeral home, please visit www.HansFuneralHome.com.

It is with great sadness that I read of the passing of Tony. I still have such vivid memories of summers and Christmas times spent in the home. Even as a young child I knew Tony was a kind and loving man. I am so sorry for the family’s loss as his presence in your lives can not be measured. I lost Dad about a year and a half ago and the loss of a strong and loving person is without compare. My love to each and every one of you as you go through this difficult time. Tony was a blessing as a husband and father and grandfather, of this I have no doubt.

On behalf of all his friends on the Mohawk, Adirondack and Northern Railroad I would like to express our sincere condolances to Tony’s family on the loss of this great man. He was a gentleman, a mentor and a friend; who was always there to help and guide you when it was needed. Tony was always generous with his knowledge of railroading, an industry that he grew up with, and obviously enjoyed. I am indeed grateful for the memories and the knowledge gained from this great man.

See you at the end of the line, Good Friend.
