Alan J. Domaracki

GUILDERLAND – Alan J. Domaracki, 67, of Guilderland, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017.  Alan was born in Buffalo, and studied at the University at Albany, where he earned his doctorate in Atmospheric Sciences.  He was employed until his retirement by the New York State Public Service Commission.  In retirement, he was employed part time by the New York State Division of Homeland Security & Disaster Preparedness as a Disaster Assistance Representative.  Alan enjoyed biking, sailing, hiking and running, and was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer, always inventing new and better ways to do things.  He was always interested in the latest technologies.  One of his hobbies was growing both ordinary plants and exotic tropical plants – and he definitely had a green thumb.  In recent years, Alan took an interest in and traveled to Puerto Rico, enjoying the study of its geology and vegetation.  Alan will be remembered as a loyal and caring friend, and a devoted family man, who worked to give his children every advantage.  His grandchildren were the light of his life.

Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Jane Hoos Domaracki; his children Beth Whiteside (Michael) of Guilderland, and Mark Domaracki of Boston, MA; and his grandchildren Nora, Kara, and Erica Whiteside.

Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home Friday from 5 – 7:30 p.m.  Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany, Saturday morning at 10 AM.  Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship for a student from Puerto Rico in Alan’s memory: Checks should be payable to the University at Albany Foundation (with the check memo specifying – Alan J. Domaracki Memorial Scholarship, and sent to University at Albany Foundation, c/o Dean’s Office, School of Education, ED 212, 1400 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12222).  A reception and celebration of Alan’s life will be held at Lynnwood Reformed Church, 3714 Carmen Rd, Schenectady, NY 12303 immediately following the burial.
