Alice McDermott Pinckney

ALBANY – Alice McDermott Pinckney, 91, of Albany, died peacefully Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at the Teresian House , surrounded by her loving family. Alice was born in Watervliet, but lived most of her life in Albany. She spent many happy years with her devoted husband, Andrew, raising their seven children. Her greatest joy in life was being surrounded by her loving family and dear friends. She led a life filled with love and laughter and will be best remembered for her courage and faith and her Irish eyes that always kept us smiling.
Alice was a communicant for over 50 years of the former St. Catherine of Siena Church. She was a member of the staff of Our Lady of Hope Residence in Latham for fifteen years. She also was a member of the Catholic Women’s Service League, Ladies of Charity, Christian Brothers Academy, The Academy of the Holy Names and Vincentian Institute Mothers Associations.
Alice was predeceased by her adoring husband Andrew M. Pinckney, Sr., and her loving sons Bertram D. and James J. Pinckney. She is survived by her sons Andrew M. Pinckney, Jr. (Katy) of Waterford and Michael Pinckney (Debbie) of Albany; her daughters Catherine Pinckney of Worcester, MA., Bethy Finkle (Stephen) of Albany, and Peggy Gaudet (Jim) of Albany; her daughter in law Brenda Scovello; her dear sister Helen Casey of Albany; her sisters in law Lillian McDermott of West Palm Beach, FL, and Elizabeth Pinckney Donnelly of Albany; her cherished grandchildren Major Andrew M. Pinckney, III, U.S. Army (Jaye), Michael Halligan (Amberly), Brendan, J. Christopher and T. Gregory Halligan, Matthew and Charles Pinckney, Stephen Finkle (Amber), Meghan Finkle (Caris), Brittany, Michael and Sean Pinckney, and Jimmy and Mary Gaudet; her great grandchildren Briley, Peyton and Chace Pinckney, and Brianna Halligan; and many nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Connie Cheeseman. She also was predeceased by her loving sister Margaret Dyer, and brothers Frank, Bertram, and the Hon. William McDermott.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Teresian House for their loving care and devotion to our mother. The loving kindness you showed our mother was overwhelming and we will be forever grateful to all of you.

James Joseph Phillips

TROY – James J. Phillips, 87, of Syracuse, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Diamond Hill Nursing Center in Troy. Mr. Phillips was born in Kane, PA, but lived most of his life in Syracuse. He attended the University of Notre Dame, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Selfridge. He worked as a salesman for many years, and also for KS&R in Syracuse. He was a founding member of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. He also was an avid polo fan, and a member of the Elks.
Mr. Phillips was predeceased by his wife Grace Elizabeth Strehle Phillips; he is survived by his son Lochiel J. Phillips (Sharon) of Albany; his sister Mary Jane Schaeffer (George) of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren Josephine Faix (Christopher) of Denver, CO, James L. Phillips of Albuquerque, NM, Henry L. Phillips of Albany, and Peter J. Phillips of Albany. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

CLIFTON PARK –Jane Elizabeth Murphy Ryan, 82, died peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident at the Schuyler Ridge Nursing & Rehab Center in Clifton Park. Jane grew up in Brookview, N.Y. and graduated from Castleton High School. Jane worked as a secretary at Fort Orange Radio and later was the program secretary at the YWCA where she retired in 1993. Jane was always valued as a dedicated employee. Following retirement Jane continued to volunteer at both the American Cancer Society and the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce.
Jane is predeceased by her loving husband, James E. Ryan; and her parents, Veronica Brown Murphy and John J. Murphy Sr. Jane was the cherished mother of Donna (Peter) Amato, Colleen (John) Lewyckyj and James W. Ryan. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert and John Murphy; and a sister, Ann Burns; and by her loving grandsons, Daniel (Amie Chang) and Matthew Amato, Jonathan and Joshua Lewyckyj; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at the All Saints Church, 1168 Western Ave., Albany at 9:30. Interment will follow in the Calvery Cemetery in Glenmont. Carl M. Bellinger

GUILDERLAND – Carl M. Bellinger, 86, of Guilderland, died peacefully Saturday, March 5, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Bellinger was born in Schoharie, but lived most of his life in Albany and Guilderland. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and fought in the South Pacific battles of Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. He was employed by the Times Union newspaper for thirty two years in the circulation department, retiring in 1987. He was a life member of the VFW Post 7062. He loved horseback riding, the outdoors and travel; visiting Cancun, Aruba, Hawaii, as well as Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. He also was a jack of all trades and always had a home project to keep him busy. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Mr. Bellinger is survived by his beloved wife Lillian Warner Bellinger for 63 years; his daughters Marcia Jones (Dennis) and Sharon Genhofer (Bruce); his grandchildren Shane Jones (Melanie), Blake and Nicole Jones, and Rachele, Alexa and Aidan Genhofer. He was predeceased by his brother Earl Bellinger.
The family would like to thank Crystal for her constant loving, care and support; Dr. Hornick and Craig, P.A. of Homedical Associates; and the Visiting Nurses of Albany especially Rose, Joel, Lori, Beth and all others who provided such wonderful care for Mr. Bellinger.

ALBANY -- Elizabeth C. “Betty” Bishop, 87, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at St. Peter’s Hospital with her family by her side. Betty was born in Cohoes on August 28, 1923 and grew up the beautiful and vibrant daughter of Edmund Connery and Josephine Betonia Connery. Betty graduated from Keveny Academy in 1939.
She met her husband Frank J. Bishop while the two worked for the New York State Department of Public Works. They married in 1947 and moved to Albany and raised four children, who, along with her husband, were the loves of her life for the next six decades.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Frank J. Bishop; her children Frank J. Bishop, Jr. (Robin C.) and Peter E. Bishop (Judith Faith) both of Albany; Elizabeth Ann “Liz” of Saratoga Springs, and Paul G. Bishop (Diane) of Albany; her grandchildren Colleen Davignon (Russ), Audrey Bishop and Gregory Bishop; her great granddaughter Maya Rose Vasquez, her great friend and sister-in-law Eileen Bishop Loomis and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son Michael Francis Bishop and her only sister, June Dessingue.
Funeral services will be held in the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Avenue, Albany, Monday morning at 10 o’clock, and from there to the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in the old Vincentian Institute, from which all four Bishop children graduated, on Ontario and Yates Streets, Albany at 11 o’clock.
